The nature of the encroachment upon American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer; it eats faster and faster every hour. The revenue creates pensioners, and the pensioners urge for more revenue.The seekers more numerous and more corrupt, and every day increases the circles of their dependents and vanity, luxury, foppery, selfishness, meanness, and downright venality swallow up the whole of society.

I see it didn't take them long to put the Warm Springs Tribe flag back up, and I see at the same level as the US flag, they should know better. Put it away. I am happy pledging to the United States, I am happy pledging to the State of Oregon. It just burns my ass that we are pledging to the tribes when we don't even have our own flag. If it was a gift to the town, then it would be proper to display it, but somewhere else, dammit. Put in down at the Port even. Stop displaying our ignorance and stop sucking up to people who don't live here.
It is also way past time to take down the sign promising the 1700 jobs and welcoming the tribe. Use those spaces to help market the land. You can't find a better advertising venue.
The Franchise Fee increase passed by the dishonest Cascade Locks City Council is illegal and in my opinion amounts to monthly theft from every citizen of Cascade Locks.
There is no dispute to the fact that our citizens took back the authority to create or increase fees or charges from the city council in 2008 by changing our city charter.
In 2009 the city council knowingly passed an ordinance that illegally established a franchise fee in Cascade Locks.
Even the police officer who serves on council knows that they can't create or raise taxes, fees or charges. He's the one who came up with the heart wrenching "what if the cost of copies goes up" argument against the changes to the charter. If you know you can't change the price of copies Helfrich, how can you think you can increase the euphemistically titled "in-lieu" fee?
I don't know what level of integrity is expected of sworn officers, I do know that the the Multnomah County Sheriff lost his certification a few years ago for less blatant transgressions.
Liar Lance will cost us all, hopefully some more than others.
If you walked in and caught your neighbor taking coins out of your change jar what would you do? A little change doesn't really matter does it? Maybe he really needs it...what difference does $0.75 or $1.00 really make anyway. How about the second, third and fourth time you caught him?
If you didn't do or say anything, who would be to blame when your neighbor stopped by every day and helped himself to your money? The fact is, he knows that you know, and by saying nothing you're giving him permission.
Lance Masters, Jeff Helfrich, Gail Lewis, and Randy Holmstrom are our neighbors and they are stealing from all of us every day. Every time that electrical meter spins they are taking money out of your pocket, against your expressed wishes. They have lied and cheated their way into positions of trust and authority for just this reason, so they have access to your money. They are abusing our trust every day. The city council knows that they can't increase fees, but they choosen to ignore the city charter and lie and steal to try and cover up the previous lies and thefts of their friends.
It's not that difficult to determine how and why this city has deteriorated into what it is today. It's the people stupid.
Someone that will steal a nickle, will eventually steal every dollar you have.
